Tema-based school DPS lnternational Ghana held a Career Fair for Students at the school premises on Friday the 10th November 2023. The event brought together personalities from various fields of life in an attempt to motivate the students and guide them on their career choices and the various tertiary institutions (within Ghana and abroad) and courses to take in order to help them make the right choices for their careers.
Some of the institutions that were present included: the University of Ghana, Central University, Wisconsin, Lancaster University, Kelee University (UK), Swiss Education Group, Academic City University College, University of Waterloo, Botho University, University of Lincoln, Nottingham Trent University, among others. Furthermore, insurance company SIC was on hand to assist students in understanding the significance of taking calculated risks, emphasizing the importance of insurance and providing insights into how insurance policies operate.
A panel discussion session featured DPSI students engaging with professionals from various fields, including a lawyer, psychologist, an award-winning Ghanaian teacher, and a representative from an insurance company. Following the ceremony, students had the opportunity to interact with representatives from different schools, gathering information to assist them in making informed decisions about their preferred university choices when the time comes.
Regarding the event, Director Mukesh Thakwani expressed: "Our aim is to provide final-year students with an opportunity to engage with both local and international universities. We've brought together several universities to give students insight into their options. My role involves recommending universities to students, and I wanted to have one-on-one discussions with them to understand their preferences before progressing to the application stage. These applications are for the September 2024 admissions, making it the ideal time for students to decide on their preferred schools and initiate the application process. The presence of students, parents, and university representatives here aims to streamline the process for all parties involved. My responsibility is to help students build a career path, which includes identifying universities that align with their career goals. This is a time-consuming process, and with only a few months left, our goal is to efficiently prepare students for enrollment in their chosen tertiary institutions and degree programs, ensuring satisfaction for both parties."
